The 7th of October, 2016 in the Moscow Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society took place the signing ceremony of the agreement between the Russian Geographical Society and the Prince Albert II Foundation. It is aimed at the teamwork of the Society and the Foundation in the field of ecology, environmental protection, marine ecosystems and rare mammals.

The First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society, Academician Nikolay Kasimov, the Prime Minister of Monaco Serge Telle, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Monaco in the Russian Federation Mireille Pettiti, Vice-President of the Prince Albert II Foundation Bernard Fautrier, the Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Nuritdin Inamov and other honored guests took part in the event.

-Welcome to Russia in order to learn it from the geographical point of view, solving the ecological problems, - Nikolay Kasimov greeted the guests. – Russia has the biggest territory in the world and the longest maritime boundary. I think the Prince Albert II Foundation will be interested in all the projects, which can be implemented here. And we are happy to do this together.

In his reply the Vice-President of the Prince Albert II Foundation Bernard Fautrier noted, that over the past 10 years there can be noticed significant improvements in the attitude of human to the environment.  In particular, the environmental legislation is being improved, green technologies all over the world are being developed. Bernard Fautrier highlighted the success of the program of the Amur tiger population recovery, which is being supported by the Russian Geographical Society.

-I am sure that we will have a lot of opportunities to take part in the events within the framework of the Year of Ecology in 2017, which was announced the Year of Ecology in Russia on the initiative of the President Vladimir Putin, - noted Bernard Fautrier. – We will work out the program of active participation in this project for the months, remaining before the start of the year.

In 2006 the Prince Albert II founded the charity organization, which got the name of the Prince Albert II Foundation (La Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco), the main objective of the Foundation was the environmental protection. The main activities of the Foundation are the following: biodiversity conservation, combating climate change and water resources management.

Reigning Prince Albert II of Monaco is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society.

In the year of 2010 there will be celebrated the 10th years` anniversary of establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the Russian Federation and Principality of Monaco.
