The 1st of October at 00:00 by Moscow time was completed the acceptance of the applications for the Award of the Russian Geographical Society. For these three months – the contest for the Award started the 1st of July – the Society received more than 400 applications from all Russia, and from the other countries of the world.
The geography of the Award candidates is very wide: besides our country, that is Brazil, Greece, Turkey, Malta, Uzbekistan, Belarus, etc. Both individuals and groups of authors claim the Award of the Russian Geographical Society. A lot of the applications were received from the profile organizations (geographical institutions and universities, profile public and autonomous organizations). However there are people, claiming the Award, who are not directly related to science, but very much fascinated by traveling Russia, research and exploring the territory of native country, and the questions of ecology and conservation as well.
The age of the authors of applications is varied as well: the applications had been given by the schoolchildren as well, who represented their own research projects within the frames of the educational program. Whole Russia from the west to east is covered with the attention of the Award competitors. The significant part of the projects of the contest is dedicated to ecology, protection of animals and the preservation of the natural heritage of our country.
The 3rd of October the Expert Group started working with the received applications, after that they will be regarded by the Jury of the Award, which will be headed by the President of the Society Sergey Shoygu. The First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society Arthur Chilingarov and the First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society Nikolay Kasimov, the Head of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Oleg Dobrodeyev, the explorer and businessman Frederik Paulsen, the biologist and broadcaster Nikolay Drozdov, the producers Nikita Mikhalkov and Fedor Bondarchuk, and other famous scientists, public figures, representatives of culture and arts are all being the members of the Jury of the Award.
The awarding ceremony of the laureates of the Award of the Russian Geographical Society will be held in the end of November, 2016. Within the frames of the gala day there will be awarded the winners of the second photo contest of the Russian Geographical Society «The most beautiful country».
