The Baikal Tale

The expedition was held under the auspices of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, and its author and organizer was the member of the Society Anatoliy Gvirdzhishvili. The representatives of Russia and Czech Republic became the participants of the large-scale expedition.

The main objective of the expedition - the study of possible ways of movement along the winter ice of the lake, development of recommendations on complex natural situations, and the route preparation for winter crossing of the whole Baikal on motorcycles, which takes place in March, 2018. The distance of the path along the ice of the lake makes 1642 kilometers.

The explorers have overcome over a hundred kilometers, following the route of Olkhon - the port of Ust-Barguzin - Saint Cape - Ushkany island - the island of Olkhon - the village Goloustny - the village Big Cats - the village of Listvyanka, for the ten days of the exhibition. The participants of the expedition even had to stay overnight in the cordons of the huntsmen and on the ice of the Baikal Lake.

During the expedition the Czech participants decided to fill up the ranks of the Russian Geographical Society and to become the part of the legendary organization.

The team of the project «Baikal – 2017» has already started preparation and detailed development of a large-scale expedition, planned for the next year.
