From March 21 to 23, the IV Big Geographic Festival is taking place in Yakutia. The Festival is timed to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society. The event is aimed at promoting geographical knowledge in the republic.

First regional offices of the Russian Geographical Society were opened in the region in the early 1850s. In 1851, the Siberian branch of the Society was opened in Irkutsk. In 1877 it became known as the East Siberian branch.  August 25, 1913 an independent office of the Society was opened in the Yakutsk region.

An interesting program has been prepared for guests of the festival. Both children and adults will find here something interesting: workshops, quests, excursions, exhibitions, as well as a scientific conference on climatology, cartography, and tourism development. In addition, different awareness-raising activities are planned on Water Day and Meteorologist Day.

The event is organized by the Society branch in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Youth Club of the Society branch in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Ammosov Northeastern Federal University, the Ministry of Nature Protection, and the Ministry of Youth and Family Policy of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
