To the Coast of the Pacific Ocean

The expedition of the Russian Geographical Society has completed in the Kronotsky Nature Reserve. Young men and women from different Russia’s regions took part in it. 

The Kronotsky Nature Reserve is located in the eastern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula. It was founded in 1934. It is best known for the valley of geysers, waterfalls and thermal lakes. There are 8 active volcanoes on its territory; Kronotskaya Sopka is a major stratovolcano on the peninsula (its height is more than 3500 m). Since 1996 the Kronotsky Nature Reserve has been part of Volcanoes of Kamchatka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During 30 days volunteers helped employees of the Kronotsky reserve to clean the territory and trails, participated in the inspection of the field stations of "Malye Tyushevskie Hot Springs" and "10th river".

In addition, during the expedition, the volunteers got acquainted with rare species of Kamchatka animals – whales, sea otters, ichthyofauna and ornithofauna. Young men and women saw the main predator of Kamchatka, the brown bear, and learned how to behave when meeting it.

All the participants were given diplomas of the Russian Geographical Society and the Kronotsky Reserve.
