For the first time this year, the Russian Geographical Society announced a competition for the awarding of Youth Nominal Scholarships for success in scientific, educational and social activities. According to the decision of the Governing Council of the Russian Geographical Society there were chosen 10 winners. Young men and girls became holders of a scholarship in the amount of 100,000 rubles, which is paid at a time.

Among the best there were representatives of youth clubs of the Russian Geographical Society who told what they were going to spend money on first of all, what way the Society helps in the implementation of ideas and with what difficulties the young scientists and public figures in Russia have to face.

Dream and scientific knowledge

Fellows noted, that the money, first of all, will be spent on something really useful, not only for themselves, but also for science. For example, for scientific research or development of the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society, which requires considerable expenses.

«This victory will help me not only to realize the dream, but also to expand scientific knowledge. For example, we have a number of interesting projects in the regional Youth Club, where I would like to invest part of the scholarship for their development. Further in the plans is traveling, most likely, to Austria, together with the flag of the youth - a challenge to visit the Alps to explore local glaciers within the topic of your dissertation and just to relax», - the head of the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society in Irkutsk, the winner of the contest in the nomination «For successes in public activities» - Yegor Ivanov shared his plans.

Svetlana Marich, the winner of the contest in the nomination «For success in social activities», the head of the Youth Club in the Arkhangelsk region, decided as well that the scholarship should be spent on travel, but not in Europe, but in Russia to those remote corners of our country that are considered not very popular among tourists.

«We will go on a family trip with my husband - it will be exactly Russia and just beyond the Urals. I would like to visit friends, other youth clubs. We will possibly organize our expedition to distant regions. This is a good opportunity to think about yourself and praise for all the work done», - the girl told.

Scholarship is a great incentive

According to the words of the winners of the contest of the Russian Geographical Society, young scientists have a hard time due to lack of adequate funding. Grant is difficult to be received, and the scholarship is a chance to justify all the invested funds in the work done and to find an incentive for future scientific and public projects.

«I consider such kind of system to be more effective, as the young scientists are hard in our country with funding. It is a good way to compensate for material investments. When you receive a response and powerful help, you want to move on», - Mikhail Valov, the head of the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society in the Astrakhan region, the winner of the Contest of Scholarships in the nomination "For success in scientific and educational activities in the field of geography and related sciences" noted.

«In addition, the scholarships stimulate, especially from the Russian Geographical Society, at the expense of the image. This suggests that your volunteer work is necessary and all is not in vain,»  - Yegor Ivanov added.

New civil position

According to the heads of the clubs, for today the youth direction is popular and has a good prospect of development within the framework of public organizations, and geography is the key to the success of the revival of youth associations.

«The direction of youth is promising and has been developing rapidly in recent years. And geography is something that is close to everyone. Everyone loves his small Homeland, the level of ecological culture is returning. Now young people for a healthy lifestyle, for a healthy attitude to the planet - are ready not only to take, but also to give. The Russian Geographical Society unites such people and copes with the task», - Mihkail Valov explained.

Fellows also noted the need for volunteerism as a new form of civic position among young people.

«Volunteering is an active civil position. They are not only geographers and environmentalists, they are all spheres of civil society. It has no boundaries: age, education or social status. We once lost this movement, and through volunteering now everything comes back,» - Svetlana Marich explained.

Young scientists and modern formats

The problem of education and the problem of youth education are closely linked, - the winners of the contest think. To interest pupils and students, it is required to constantly work on new formats and encourage children for their services, both in public and scientific activities. "I head five youth organizations, some are directly related to the work of the Russian Geographical Society, more than 50% of my time I dedicate to work. Therefore, I can judge that new formats are needed, but accurate delivery is needed. If you notice that everything was developed only to attract the audience, there is no sincere message - nothing will come of it. Young people are tied to advertised events, to what is fashionable in a trend - this must also be taken into account and used, " - Yegor Ivanov explained.

The leaders noted that the Russian Geographical Society educates new young scientists and gives a good start to the implementation of projects. Acknowledgment to that is the result of the Competition of Nominal Fellowships, in which the majority of boys and girls, one way or another, are connected with the social activities of the organization.

«You see, what they do not give in school, we try to make up in the Youth Committee of the Russian Geographical Society, we try to serve it interesting and with a high-quality, we are trying to show not only geography on the other hand, but also the volunteer direction. We are giving a chance to realize our goals and find our place in the profession», - Svetlana Marich summed up.
