Geographical Dictation: a step-by-step instruction for taking part in the event

The Geographical Dictation of the Russian Geographical Society will take place in Russia and abroad November 11, 2018. More than 3,400 venues were registered. It is very easy to join the event.

Step 1. How to choose the location where you wish to write the dictation?

Go to the official website at dictant.rgo.ru, select the ‘Dictation geography’ section, choose the nearest location and follow the link to the location page.

Step 2. How to register?

Find the participation conditions, organizers’ contacts, details of the registration, and number of maximum participates on the location page.

Be sure to ask the organizers what documents are necessary to enter the venue, e.g. a passport or student ID, etc.

Step 3. When to come?

The event will start November 11 at 12:00 p.m. (local time) at all the venues. However, it is recommended to come in advance to get forms and take a seat. The exact schedule of each venue is published on its webpage. 

Step 4. How to know your result?

When you are ready, give the organizers your form with answers and take a form with your individual number with you.

Results will be known after November 30, 2018. To get your result, you have to type your individual number in the special form on the website at dictant.rgo.ru.

You can also write the Dictation online. It will start November 11 at 14:00 Moscow time on the website at dictant.rgo.ru. The dictation will be available online for three days till 2:00 p.m. (Moscow time) November 15. 

The Geographical Dictation is a large-scale educational event initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin organized by the Russian Geographical Society. This year it will be held for the fourth time and it will be held on more than 3,400 locations on five continents. The Dictation will be in Germany, France, Italy, America, Costa Rica, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, Namibia, Nepal and many other countries. The event will be held in universities, schools, research institutes and libraries, but not only. For example, it will be held in a tent on Matua Island. The Dictation will also be written in Star City, on the "Varyag” missile cruiser and the Marshal Krylov ship and in the Novosibirsk Planetarium.
