July 18, volunteers of the international youth organization AIESEC, participants of the project EcoFuture, visited the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg.

Sergey Katikov, advisor to the President of the Russian Geographical Society on international activities, told the guests about the history and modern life of the Society, about numerous youth volunteer projects and internships, and international activities of the Russian Geographical Society. The students visited the Scientific Library, the exhibition "Golden Fund of Russian Geographical Society" and took a few pictures of the famous rostrum, from which outstanding travelers and geographers used to make their speeches.

AIESEC is an international not-for-profit independent organization that is run by young people aged 18-29.  The organization was founded in 1948 year and it has an office in Russia. Among most important goals of the organization is the development of leadership and professional potential of the youth in order to implement socially beneficial projects. One of the major projects is EcoFuture.

The students from China, India, Vietnam and Portugal have come to Russia for the first time to get acquainted with volunteer environmental programs they want to take part in. So for ten days the children will help specialists of the Nizhny Svirsky reserve in the Leningrad region, then they will spend a few days in the ecological camp "Chistaya Ladoga", as well as visit the specially protected natural area "Komarovsky Bereg".

It is symbolic that the Russian Geographical Society was among the first organizations visited by the environmentalists in St. Petersburg.
