The ‘Little Buryatia’ interactive geographical platform was opened in the ‘Avatar’ rehabilitation and correction center in Ulan-Ude. The project is organized by the ‘Zdorovje Buryatii’ (Health of Buryatia) regional public fund for people with disabilities. The platform is aimed at helping such people to study Buryatia’s geography in an interactive and accessible manner. Grant support for the project was provided by the Russian Geographical Society.

"In the era of virtual reality, people are losing interest in observations and real journeys. This impoverishes the emotional space necessary for the development of an individual. Our project promotes the development of emotional intellect in people with disabilities who cannot go to Lake Baikal or climb the mountains independently to see the beauty of the republic. "Little Buryatia" will help them get acquainted with the native land, feel it on the tips of their fingers," noted Chairman of the Board of ‘Zdorovje Buryatii’ Svetlana Budashkaeva.

"Little Buryatia" is a visual textbook. Several interactive areas occupy more than 1000 square meters. Walking around the site, children and adults can interactively visit different parts of Buryatia, learn its flora and fauna and apply this knowledge in practice. Special equipment installed in the park helps monitor the weather and environmental changes, determine time zones and assess the environmental quality.
