The Youth Forum dedicated to the unification of the Russian-American youth was held in New York, the United States. It was attended by the organizers of the RGS Geographical Dictation in the United States, as well as Olga Lapina, an employee of the Executive Directorate of the Russian Geographical Society. She made a presentation on the RGS activities in the section of preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Russia.
The forum program included plenary sessions, panel discussions and the presentation of youth projects. As a result of the presentations, three best projects were selected and they will receive support from the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots Organizations during its implementation. The prize from the Russian Geographical Society was awarded to Yevgeny Adamovich, the organizer of intellectual games for compatriots in the United States.
The Youth Forum has been held annually in the USA since 2013. It is organized by the Russian Center in New York under the auspices of the Coordinating Council of the organizations of Russian compatriots of the United States with the support of the Russian Embassy in the United States, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York and the Russian Youth of America Society.
The project was attended by representatives of youth public organizations of compatriots of the USA, scientific and student communities, Russian-language media - about 200 young people from different states of America. Guests of honor also were present at the event: Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov, the Director of the Department for Work with Compatriots Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation Oleg Malginov, the Chairman of the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots Organizations in the USA Elena Branson and others.
“Who else but you, young people, will take over the baton in consolidating the Russian world, revealing its richest potential. This world connects people who feel spiritual bond with Russia, try to achieve Motherland's prosperity [...] We are interested in your living comfortably, having the opportunity for self-fulfillment and achieving succes. And at the same time, being thousands of kilometers away from Russia, you do not lose your roots, preserve your native language and culture", said Anatoly Antonov in his opening speech.
“The forum brought together prominent representatives of the Russian-speaking diaspora in the United States, active youth, and ideological founders of a number of initiatives aimed at consolidating compatriots abroad. That is great that many people were interested in the RGS projects, there is a room for interaction in different directions”, underlined Olga Lapina.
