«The peninsula of treasures»

Two-part documentary named «The peninsula of treasures», created with the grant support of the Russian Geographical Society, goes on the air of the «Zvezda» TV-channel. The viewers will see the picture the 28th and 29th of September.

The film is dedicated to the underwater research of Byzantine vessel, found off the coast of Balaclava at depth of over 80 meters. The sunken cargo ship is a rare finding for the Russian scientists and divers. The items, amongst which there are many antique amphora, raised from the seabed, can be of great historical value. Having studied the remains of the ancient civilization, historians will be able to answer many questions of the relationship of two states  - of Ancient Rus and Byzantium.

The viewers will see documentary footage of the work of divers and archeologists on the studying of the vessel and rise of valuable artifacts from the deep sea to the surface, and will get to know a lot of interesting about the history of navigation of the X-IX centuries, about cultural and economic ties of the Old Russian state and the Byzantine Empire.
