The Russian Geographical Society jointly with the Institute of History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences announces competitive recruitment for participation in Kostenkovskaya expedition of the Russian Geographical Society - Institute of History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The objective of the expedition is conducting of archaeological excavations of monuments of the Upper Paleolithic.
The winners of the contest will be provided with accommodation and meals at the campsite by the Russian Geographical Society. Transportation to Voronezh and back is being paid by the participants by themselves.
The date and place where the expedition is about to be held: 01st-20th of August, 2016, Kostenki village, Voronezh region.
Kostenki (Voronezh region) is being the unique center of concentration of the monuments of ancient culture on the territory of Russia. At the present time there is located world famous museum-reserve «Kostenki» at this place.
The volunteers will take part in excavations, being held under the direction of the senior fellows of Division of Paleolith of the Institute of History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences, candidates of historical sciences A.Sinitsyn and S.Lisitsyn, and research associate of the Division of Paleolith of the Institute of History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences, candidate of historical sciences A.Bessudnov. The main objects of work will be multilayer camps, where the oldest remains of material culture of Early Upper Paleolith are unsealed.
The placement is about to be in the form of camping (tents) based on the expedition. The volunteers will have access to the electricity, water supply from wells, summer shower, gas stove, and mobile telephony and Internet will be available as well. There is a regular bus service to Voronezh.
There is planned extensive cultural program for the volunteers for the time of their standing in the camp during all the expedition. There are series of lectures, dedicated to the various aspects of the archeology of Upper Paleolithic (human origins, genesis of ancient art, culture of mammoth hunters, etc.), visiting the museum-reserve «Kostenki», where the remnants of dwellings of mammoth bones are being exhibited, excursions to the main memorials of Paleolith of Kostenki.
