The Russian heritage of the Himalayas: continuation of the way

The expedition of Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society reached the base camp of the Everest Mount. The explorers started their work - collecting geological samples, geographical research, photo- and video shooting, art open-airs.

We would like to remind you, that the Russian Geographical Society supported with the grant the project «The Russian heritage of the Himalayas: continuation of the way». The members of the crew are following the trace of the great scientists and artists of the past – Nikolay Przewalski, Gombozhab Tsybikov, Petr Kozlov, Nikolay Rerikh, Vasily Vereshagin and Boris Lisanevich, carrying on the traditions of the outstanding personalities of the Society. In the XIX – beginning of the XXth century the study of Central Asia, including Tibet, actually unknown by the Europeans before, was one of the priorities of the Russian science –and, first of all, of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society.

The participants of the tour are the following: the chairman of Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society Ivan Chaika, a honored artist of Russia Sergey Dudko, a member of the Union of artists Lyudmila Alexandrova, the explorers Sergey Lozovoy and Vladimir Nikulin, and the geologist Alexander Rybakov as well.

The expedition started the 5th of September, and its participants got Katmandu soon and began tracking in the area of Langtang. The explorers are conducting the scientific research in the field of geography and geology of the Himalayas, gathering ethnographic material, they are making photo- and video shoots. Besides, there is planned to organize thematic meetings and press-conferences, dedicated to the project, in the capital of Nepal – Katmandu.

The result of the project will become creation of the world's first collection of beautiful images of all 14 highest mountains of the planet, the collection is about to be named «The Bouquet of vertices». There will be held the exhibitions of the photos of participants of the exhibition. There is also planned release of the collection of the complex geographical research of the Himalayas.
