Submissions for the International Summer School are Now Open

Submissions for the ‘Geography for all’ School, the international summer school of the Russian Geographical Society, are now open. The school will take place in St. Petersburg August 19 – 26. St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics will participate in organization of the event as a partner. This year the event will be devoted to the promotion of geography.

Undergraduate and graduate students, post-graduate students and young professionals aged 18 - 35 from Russia and abroad, taking an active part in public activities and promotion of geography and other sciences may apply.

The knowledge of two languages – English and Russian – is a requirement to participate in the selection.

The summer school program is developed around a team work on different projects that will be reviewed by a professional jury. The jury will select the best team that will receive a targeted reward to implement the developed project with the assistance and under the auspices of the Society.

In addition, young specialists will visit lectures by famous scientists, workshops, master classes, geographical quests, team games, excursions and will meet with public figures, journalists, photographers, travelers, and TV hosts.

Participants will be addressed by leading Russian and foreign scientists (theorists and practitioners) specializing in physics, economy, social geography, ecology and environmental protection.

Young people will learn how geographical events are organized and will get experience in organizing them. They will also get new personal and professional contacts, and will take part in joint projects together with leading experts from various fields of science.

First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society, President of the Geographical Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow state University, academician Nikolai Kasimov will head the scientific and organizational committee of the Summer School.

The organizers will provide accommodation, food and tickets at no cost. Visa support for foreign citizens will also be provided. For more information, see the Contest Regulations.

If you wish to apply, you will need to provide the following: 

1. An application in Russian or English (available here)

The file must be signed: “Last name_first name_application”.

2. A cover letter in English and in Russian.

The letter should be written in a free form.  It is necessary to explain why you would like to join the school.  Reasons for joining are the main selection criteria.

The file must be signed: “Last name_first name_coverletter”.

3. Description of project experience in English or Russian (no more than 2 pages)

It should include a candidate's main experience in social activities and activities aimed at promoting geographical knowledge.

The file must be signed:"LastName".

4. A photo in digital form (800*600 pixels) to be published on the website of the Russian Geographical Society in case a candidate is selected. The file must be signed: "LastName".

5. Consent to processing of personal data

Applications are accepted until June 5, 2018.

Applications with other documents required should be emailed to the organizers with the subject: Last name_first name_summer school”.

The organizers will register an application and confirm its registration.
