The Russian Geographical Society is taking part in the international exhibition-forum "Russia", which opened on November 4 at VDNH in Moscow. Visitors to the RGS’s stand can get acquainted with the history of geographical discoveries, the biography of great explorers, current projects of the Society, as well as apply for participation in the RGS’s expedition.
At the RGS’s stand, you can see the diary of Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay and the notebook of Grigory Grum-Grzhimailo, photographs and drawings from expeditions whose participants mapped new geographical locations, and study unique materials from modern expeditions of the Society.
Among the exhibits in the special interactive book there are real artifacts of domestic cartography: the first complete atlas of the Russian Empire from 1745, the atlas of the first Russian circumnavigation edited by Ivan Kruzenshtern, the atlas based on the results of the First Russian Antarctic Expedition led by Faddey Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev.

At the VR cinema, you can immerse yourself in the stunning nature of our country, become a participant in a tour of the historical building of the RGS Headquarters in St. Petersburg, listen to lectures on geography, which will be read by Pyotr Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, Yuly Shokalsky, Nikolai Miklouho-Maclay.
The stand houses the Vavilov Plantarium with live plants from the Vavilov Collection of the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources: green mizuna cabbage, vishnevaya dymka (eng. “cherry haze”) salad, lollo bionda salad – a total of 12 species. While the exhibition-forum "Russia" is running, everyone can observe plants using the website and the application of the RGS’s project “Okruzhayushchiy Mir” (eng. “Environment”).
On the interactive map, you can select any Russian region and see the photos that were taken by the participants of the RGS’s photo contest "The Most Beautiful Country".
In a specially equipped cinema hall, RGS’s films are shown every day.
