THE CONCEPT

OF THE AWARD OF THE RUSSIAN GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY

2020

1. GENERAL PROVISIONS

1.1. The Award of the Russian Geographical Society (hereinafter referred to as the Award) represents an award of the All-Russian nongovernment organization “The Russian Geographical Society” (hereinafter referred to as the Society) in the field of national geography, ecology, maintaining and popularization of natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia.

1.2. The Award is being held once in two years and has an international status.

1.3. The Award was established in order to promote activities of the Society and increase interest in the projects in the field of national geography, ecology, maintaining natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia, as well as popularize geographical science and education support.

1.4. The Award is being handed in by the Jury of the Award (hereinafter referred to as the Jury) on a competitive basis.

1.5. The President of the Society, being the Chairman of the Jury at the same time, approves the Jury.

1.6. The decision to announce the contest for the Award is being published on the website of the Society www.rgo.ru/en (hereinafter referred to as the website of the Society).

1.7. The individuals and collectives, which works (projects) meet the requirements of the present Concept, are able to participate in the contest.

1.8. The Award is being held according to the following schedule:

1.8.1. Feb 17th – June 1st, 2020 – submission and technical selection of applications for the Award (hereinafter referred to as the applications);

1.8.2. June 10th–24th, 2020 – evaluation of the received applications by the Expert Group;

1.8.3. July 5–31st, 2020 – evaluation of the received applications by the Jury;

1.8.4. November, 2020 – the awarding ceremony of the laureates of the Award.

1.8.5. Conducting the Award and providing work of the Jury is being executed by the Working group, formed by the Executive Director of the Society.

2. THE NOMINATIONS OF THE AWARD

 2.1. The Award is being handed in on a competition basis in the following nominations:

2.1.1. «The best scientific project» (results of scientific and research projects in geography and related disciplines*);

2.1.2. «The best historic and cultural project» (results of archeology and ethnology projects aimed at study, preservation and promotion of historic and cultural heritage*);

2.1.3. «The best education project in the field of geography» (results of education projects and events dedicated to geography in Russia*);

2.1.4. «The best expedition in Russia» (results of expeditionary research, as well as underwater research, in the field of geography and related disciplines*);

2.1.5. «The best environmental project» (results of projects dedicated to study and conservation of nature and biodiversity and promotion of sustainable use of natural resources*);

2.1.6. «The best media project» (popular-science and documentary films, TV, Internet and radio projects, as well as publications in the field of geography and related disciplines*);

2.1.7. «The best youth project» (results of scientific, expeditionary, nature protection and educational projects in the field of geography and related sciences* with participation of young people aged 14 to 35).

2.1.8. «The best tourism project» (results of projects on development of domestic and inbound tourism in Russia, including projects in the field of ecological, active, cultural and educational leisure, such as: tourist routes, tourist and recreational complexes, events, large-scale tourist attractions, guidebooks and more*).

3. SUBMISSION AND PROCESSING OF APPLICATIONS

3.1. It is necessary to fill in the registration form for submitting an application on the website of the Society.

3.2. Projects presented for the Award must be completed by the individuals and the entities.

3.3. Application must contain the description of the project for the Award, including the following information:

3.3.1. Nomination;

3.3.2. The name of the project;

3.3.3. The project leader (individual), the name of an organization (legal entity) and/or the team of the project (indicating the leader of the project);

3.3.4. Contact information (address, e-mail, telephone number);

3.3.5. Goals and objectives of the project;

3.3.6. Timing of the project realization;

3.3.7. Geography of the project;

3.3.8. Partners of the project;

3.3.9. Description of the project;

3.3.10. Project presentation in ppt or pdf format;

3.3.11. Additional materials (photo-, video-, and audio materials);

3.3.12. Results of the project completion;

3.3.13. Diplomas, certificates and other awards of the project received (if applicable).

 3.4. Award nomination of the projects, having won awards of the Society earlier, is not allowed.

 3.5. Projects realized with violations of the legislation of the Russian Federation, containing offensive information, as well as information contrary to moral principles and generally accapted values, are not considered.

4. LICENSE AGREEMENT

 4.1. With submitting an application, the applicant for the Award (individual, leader of the legal entity/project/team) guarantees the following:

4.1.1. The applicant for the Award is the right owner of submitted materials (photo-, audio- and video materials);

4.1.2. Materials (photo-, audio- and video materials) do not violate the legislation of the Russian Federation, do not contain offensive information, as well as information contrary to moral principles and generally accepted values;

4.1.3. Content of materials (photo-, audio- and video materials) does not violate the rights of third parties.

4.2. The Applicant for the Award gratuitously grants to the Society the right (non-exclusive license) for the use by the Society of materials (photo-, audio- and video materials) in ways provided by the civil legislation of the Russian Federation, including:

4.2.1. Playback;

4.2.2. Public display in any forms;

4.2.3. Processing of any kinds (including editing, imposing graphic or musical design, creating independent works);

4.2.4. Informing the public by any means, including broadcast and cable;

4.2.5. Making available for public (in any form and in any way in the "Internet", including social networks and all sites of the Society).

4.3. The Applicant for the Award grants to the Society the right to use materials (photo-, audio- and video materials) in the ways, provided by this section of the Concept, on the territory of all countries of the world.

4.4. The right (non-exclusive license) for the use by the Society of materials (photo-, audio- and video materials) is provided to the Society for the period of validity of the exclusive right of the applicant for the Award on the specified materials since the moment of filing an application.

4.5. If third parties in judicial or other way challenge the Society its rights to use materials (photo-, audio- and video materials), the applicant for the Award must participate in the proceedings on the side of the Society and prove the legality of the use of materials by the Society.

4.6. If the applicant for the Award cannot prove the legality of the use of materials (photo-, audio- and video materials) by the Society and the Society will be held liable, the applicant of the Award must reimburse the Society within 10 (ten) calendar days since the verdict comes into force and/or other body considering the dispute, court costs, the amount to be recovered from the Society in favor of the third party, other costs related to the proceedings.

4.7. In case of presentation of claims from the side of owners of copyright and/or related rights, their authorized representatives or third parties concerning the use of materials (photo-, audio- and video materials) by the Society, the applicant for the Award undertakes to settle at its own expense all disputable issues with the persons who filed the relevant claims.

5. EVALUATION OF THE APPLICATIONS.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS

5.1. Evaluation of applications is being executed according to the following procedure:

5.1.1. Technical selection of the applications by the moderator of the website (application form check for the correct filling);

5.1.2. Evaluation of applications by the Expert Group;

5.1.3. Evaluation of applications by the Jury.

 5.2. For the preliminary evaluation of applications, the Expert Group of the Award is formed, the members of which are approved by the co-chairs of the Expert Group of the Award, approved by the President of the Society.

5.3. The Expert Group according to the results of the conducted evaluation submits selected applications to the Jury.

5.4. The Jury of the Award determines the finalists of the Award (3 projects in each nomination) and the winner of the Award in each nomination.

5.5. The decision to give the award is taken with the secret ballot of the Jury members.

 5.6. The names of the winners and the finalists are not announced till the time of the awarding ceremony.

 5.7. All the finalists of the Award are invited for the awarding ceremony (3 projects in each nomination).

 5.8. The Award may be given in any nomination both: to the one nominee – individual or legal entity – and to the team as well.

 5.9. The winners of the Award are handed in a certificate indicating the nomination, desktop composition and the cash prize of 500 000 rubles.

5.10. If the Award is given to a team, the cash prize is divided among all participants of the team specified in the application in equal parts. The share of the cash prize is paid separately to each member of the team.

5.11. When a monetary prize is paid to an individual, the Society implements the functions of a tax agent and withholds tax on the income of an individual from the amount of the payment.

5.12. The finalists of the Award are handed in the honorary diploma.

5.13. The Award may not be given if there are no applications which have passed the competitive selection based on the results of the assessments by the Expert Group and the Award Jury.

The Society does not give written and oral explanations of the reasons of taken decisions on the review of applications.

 


* Submitting of applications is possible if the goals of projects correspond with the goals, objectives and the subjects of activity of the Society, reflected in its Statute.
