In order to take part in the first stage of the competitive selection, it is necessary to prepare a portfolio. We draw attention to the fact that the timing of the competition and the camp shifts of the RGS depend on the choice of the children's center.

The purpose of special-oriented camps:

- promotion of knowledge about the Earth, opportunities and practical benefits of geography;

- encouragement and development of creative activity, interest in science;

- acquisition by children of tourist skills, including the ability to set up camp, make a fire, provide first aid;

- familiarity with the history and cultural values that unite the peoples of Russia.

In 2016, 800 boys and girls from different places of Russia participated in special-oriented camps.

In 2015, 540 children from 50 Russian regions visited Artek, Smena and Okean.
