A “Conversation about important things” dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day was held in Murmansk

Since September 2022, a series of patriotic classes 'Conversations about important things' has been held in educational organizations in Russia. With the assistance of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Commander of the Northern Fleet Admiral Alexander Moiseev coordinated the participation of Senior Lieutenant, commander of the Hydrographic Detachment of the 4th Oceanographic Expedition Yuri Kulikovsky in a "Conversation about important things" dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day. The event took place in the Museum of Polar Convoys of the Murmansk gymnasium No. 9. As always, the class began with the national anthem and raising the flag.

“It is very important to know the depth at each point of the passage right down to tens of centimeters, so that there are no mistakes. Our search is not limited to the Kola Bay, we study the entire Barents Sea, there also are expeditions to the East Siberian Sea,” said Yuri Kulikovsky, a fifth-generation hydrographer, in an interview with the Murman State Television and Radio Station.

Since 2021, the MRB RGS has been carrying out a project funded by the RGS grant "Complex Expeditionary research in the Arctic region of the Russian Federation", aimed, among other things, at the implementation of the “Remember the War” project together with the Northern Fleet. Yuri Kulikovsky spoke about the project, and the Young Army cadets showed him the most valuable exhibits of their museum. There are more than 740 exhibits in the museum, 350 of them are authentic.

At the end of the event, the cadets asked Yuri Kulikovsky about his work at the hydrographic service and about the most unique finds of his expeditions. As a souvenir of the meeting, he was presented with postcards created by the gymnasium museum.
