The international educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society "Geographical Dictation" will traditionally take place on October 30 of this year, for the eighth time. This week, the 1000th venue has been registered. It is the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the capital of Syria – Damascus.
The Geographical Dictation has been held annually since 2015. Its participants anonymously answer questions about the geography of Russia. Over the entire history of the educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society, more than 2.4 million people took part in it.
Since 2017, when the large-scale event became international for the first time, 122 countries have joined it. The Geographical Dictation is taken on all continents. In 2021, its questions were answered at two Russian stations in Antarctica – “Progress” and “Mirny”. In 2018, the large-scale RGS campaign conquered space. Since then it has been held annually on board the International Space Station.
Any Russian and foreign institutions can host the Geographical Dictation: schools, universities, libraries, museums, national parks, nature reserves, and other organizations. Venue registration continues on the website dictant.rgo.ru. You can apply to hold the RGS event until October 21, 2022 inclusive.
To date, the number of venues of the Geographical Dictation of the Russian Geographical Society that have been registered has exceeded 1000. Applications were received from 79 Russian regions and a number of foreign countries. Among them are Argentina, Germany, Egypt, India, Iran, Spain, Cuba, Malta, Romania, Serbia, Tajikistan, France, Eritrea.
The questions of the international event of the RGS will be answered at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, the S.A. Gerasimov Russian State University of Cinematography, Russian Arctic National Park, the Tauric Chersonese Sate Museum-Preserve
in Sevastopol, the Orlyonok All-Russian Children's Center, on warships and cosmodromes, on trains Moscow–Nizhny Novgorod–Moscow, on four hot air balloons of the Crimean Center for the Development of Aeronautics. In addition, the Geographical Dictation can be taken on the Internet. The online event starts on the website dictant.rgo.ru on the same day as at the in-person venues.
