12 Airports In Russia Received The Names Of Famous Travelers, Geographers And Members Of The RGS

On May 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree naming airports to the names of great people who have special services to the Fatherland. Among these are 12 travelers, geographers, members of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, people who were engaged in educational activities and the widening of the state. The airport in Blagoveshchensk was named after the statesman Nikolai Muravyov-Amursky, the airport Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky got the name of traveler Vitus Bering, the airport of Vladivostok was named after researcher of the Far East Vladimir Arsenyev, the airport of Khabarovsk was named after admiral Gennady Nevelsky and others.

Moscow airports Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo received the names of Mikhail Lomonosov, Alexander Pushkin and Andrey Tupolev.

More than 5.5 million people participated in the selection of the names of great people. Voting took place on the site великиеимена.рф, in social networks, by interviewing by phone.

The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information. The decree comes into force from the date of its signing.
