The first color photos appeared in the middle of the XIX century, and for their creation there was being used three photo cameras - for each there was installed a filter (red, green and blue), and then the images were being combined.

A photographer, chemist, member of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky was the pioneer of color photography in Russia. Thus, he made the famous color photo of Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy, as well as a number of color photographs of pre-revolutionary Russia known to the whole world.
