Applications for 12th Crystal Compass National Award are Open

The application process for the Crystal Compass National Award has started. In 2024, the cherished crystal and silver statuettes will be presented to the authors of outstanding achievements and unique projects in the field of science and culture, expedition and educational activities, preservation and popularization of the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia for the 12th time.

Everyone is invited to apply: scientific and educational institutions, creative unions, domestic and foreign organizations, enterprises of various fields, as well as independent initiative groups, public figures, and individuals. Applications are accepted until February 10, 2024.

“The award is accepting applications for the 12th time. We are waiting for projects from around the world that will be significant and relevant for many more years, will be guidelines for those who are just preparing for achievements in expeditionary, scientific, educational, and social activities! It is very important that they will contribute to the education of national pride and patriotism of the younger generation," said First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society, the legendary polar explorer, Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Russia Artur Chilingarov.

After the applications are closed, all projects will be considered by the members of the expert council of the award. The jury consists of reputable scientists, well-known state and public figures, representatives of business and the media. They will determine the winners in 10 categories: "Scientific Achievement", "Journey and Expedition", "Education", "Best Mass Media Project, Media Project", "Photography", "Civic Participation", "Publication", "Best Regional Project", "Best Socio-informational Project for the Preservation of Natural, Historical, and Cultural Heritage", "Best Environmental Project of Industrial Enterprises, Businesses". The owner of the 11th "geographical Oscar" in the category "Public Recognition" will be determined via the popular vote.

The competition for the Crystal Compass Award is held under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. The partner of the award in 2023 is the company OTEKO, the style partner is Indever. In 11 years, an expert jury has evaluated 3,720 projects and achievements from 45 countries around the world. In the special category "Public Recognition", where the laureates are determined by Internet voting, more than 2.5 million people expressed their preferences. Among the prize winners and holders of the coveted crystal statuette of the past years are Fedor Konyukhov and Frederik Paulsen, Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Institute of Glaciology and Ecogeography, Lanzhou University and the Swiss Polar Institute, KamAZ PJSC and the National Geographic Society, as well as many others.
