The Russian Geographical Society has extended the applications deadline for participation in the International Internship of the Youth Clubs in the Altai Republic until May 1. We invite young people aged 18 to 35, graduates or students of the faculties of History, Geography, Ecology and Tourism, as well as community leaders whose activities are related to geography and related sciences, to join the interesting project.
The participants of the internship will meet with scientists, teachers, public figures of the region. Together they will study the work experience of the RGS Youth Clubs in the Siberian Federal District, present their own initiatives, topical areas of activity and the results of the projects in the field of geography and related sciences. Within the framework of the program, the project participants will get acquainted with the main sights, museums and specially protected natural territories of the region, with the culture and traditions of the indigenous population of Altai.
The Altai Republic is a Russian region located in the south of Western Siberia. The beauty of the mountainous land, the contrast of taiga, steppe and semi-desert landscapes attract travelers from all over the world. Altai is rich in water resources. The Biya and Katun begin here, which at the confluence form the Ob – the longest river in Russia. The real Siberian pearl is Lake Teletskoye, whose clear waters are surrounded by majestic mountains.
It is noteworthy that one fourth of the territory of the republic consists of specially protected natural areas. In 1998, the Altai and Katun Biosphere Reserves, as well as Lake Teletskoye, Mount Belukha and the Ukok Plateau were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under the general name "Golden Mountains of Altai". The pristine nature of Altai is preserved here, as well as rare species of animals: the snow leopard, the argali, the manul, the musk deer and others.
The International Internship of the RGS Youth Clubs in the Altai Republic will take place from May 28 to June 4, 2022 (dates may be adjusted). The organizers take care of the costs of food and accommodation of the participants, provide an educational and cultural program. Travel from the place of residence to the city of Gorno-Altaisk and back is paid by the participants themselves. Now the application can be submitted until May 1, 2022 (inclusive).
To participate in the program, you need to complete a creative task and insert a link in the application. On your personal page on social networks (VKontakte, Instagram), you need to make a post with reflections on the topic "The relevance of studying and preserving the environment", telling about the preservation of natural wealth in your country (district, city), as well as evaluate the role of scientific research and environmental education in solving this issue.
The Instagram account of the RGS Youth Club (VKontakte and Instagram: @mkRGS) and the RGS Youth Club in the Altai Republic (VKontakte and Instagram: @mkRGS_altay) should be tagged in the post. The post should also include the hashtags #МолодёжныйклубРГО #СтажировкаРГО_Алтай #МолодёжныйКлубРГО_Алтай.
