The Festival of the Russian Geographical Society goes on! Another day, dedicated to Arctic, passed in the Central House of Artists the 3th of November. This «cold» theme attracted a lot of visitors, after all our Arctic territories are the largest in the word.

The head of the Expeditionary Center of the Russian Geographical Society Alexander Orlov spoke from the main stage of the Festival about the expeditions to Arctic. He demonstrated pictures from the recent travels and told the guests of the Festival about future plans. «The great project is planned for the next year – diving to the depth for more than 120 meters in the area of the North Pole», - he informed.

Within the frames of the Arctic day there was held the lecture of the leading researcher of the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Pisarev, who told about the reasons why it is necessary to study marine drifting ice, and also there was held the master-class of the Arctic photographer, the chairman of the GEOPHOTO club of the Moscow center of the Russian Geographical Society Yaroslav Nikitin.

A lot of listeners were attracted by the meeting with the designer of the legendary car named Emelja - Vasily Elagin, when he shared his impressions of the first in a history travelling to the North Pole on four wheels. «Thanks to the support of the Russian Geographical Society and, primarily Artur Chilingarov and Alexander Orlov, I managed to overcome bureaucratic barriers and to go to the drifting ice of the ocean. In the year of 2009 we reached the North Pole for the first time in the history of wheeled vehicles», - Vasily said.

Elagin devoted the audience to the story of appearance of amphibious vehicle and the details of two major Arctic expeditions, the purpose of which - was testing Emelja in the harshest environmental conditions. At the end the attendants were demonstrated a short documental movie - newsreel footage from the expedition of Vasily Elagin.

The Arctic day in the Central House of Artists came out to be not only informative, but entertaining as well: as the guests of the Festival had an opportunity to watch a slideshow with Arctic views provided by the Commission on ethnography and anthropology of the Russian Geographical Society, the colorful presentation named «The polar Lights» of the Murmansk center of the Russian Geographical Society, folklore program of the Russian Geographical Society and much more.
