June 21 is the day of the summer solstice. Because of the tilt of the Earth, the northern hemisphere is maximally illuminated. Today, early sunrise and late sunset will please both "owls" and "larks".

They used to say in Russia that this day the light reached the bottom of the deepest wells. This day was dedicated to Ivan Kupala feast. It was believed that the shortest night should not be spent on the sleep but magical cleansing. The pagans and the first Christians kindled bonfires and jumped through the fire, bathed. They believed that these rituals would protect them from illness, evil eye and curse. Witches were gathering medicinal herbs. They were hanging the bouquets of Ivan-da-marya on the doorstep of houses for luck and happiness.

In ancient times, Celtic priests - the Druids - said that the solstice would bring wealth and prosperity. In many countries, this day is considered as a holiday. In Finland, it was named as Juhannus, in Germany - Mittsmerfest, in the Baltic countries - Ligo.

Thus, today the Sun has brought to life the dream of many people to add more hours per day. Have time to finish all your businesses on the longest day and do not forget to enjoy the sunset!
