There took place the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Development Center of the Russian Geographical Society in Serbia in Belgrade. During the event there was approved the Council, there were elected the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of the Council, and there was approved the work plan for this year.

The Development Center of the Russian Geographical Society in Serbia was founded in 2016 within the frames of the agreement between the geographical societies of Russia and Serbia (the Russian Geographical Society and the Serbian Geographical Society). Its initial objectives were the following: popularization of geography, preservation of historical and cultural heritage of Russia and Serbia, carrying out environmental, educational, research and other activities aimed at developing the potential of the two countries.

Science workers, artists, and the representatives of business circles of Serbia joined the Board of Trustees of the Center. Dusan Bajatovic was elected a Chairman of the Board.

-Creating the Development Center of the Russian Geographical Society in Belgrade and its Board of Trustees will first of all strengthen contacts and the traditional understanding between our countries, centuries-old historical ties between them through the dissemination of knowledge about Russia – its extremely diverse and rich nature, cities and districts, modern life and achievements. The activity of the Center will include organization of exhibitions, lectures and seminars, Russian language courses, competitions, learning Russian cultural heritage in Serbia. The priority «target audience» of the Center – the youth. Its main objective is to promote student and school exchanges, holding of summer schools, - the Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society Vladimir Kolosov noted.

Besides, there was approved the work plan of the Development Center of the Russian Geographical Society for this year by the members of the Council, which was provided by the director of the Center – the Vice-President of the Serbian Geographical Society Miroljub Milincic.

Among the most significant events there can be noticed organization of the exhibition of the finalists of «The most beautiful country» contest in Serbia, demonstration of the films of the Russian Geographical Society at the 18th international festival of the Archaeological Films in the National Museum in Belgrade, and donation of the handwritten copies of «The brief questions of geography» of Johann Gyubner, dated the beginning of the XVIII century, to the Society.

Besides, the Center is planning to give full support to the Russian team, which will take part in the International geographical Olympiad (iGeo) in Belgrade in August.
