The expeditions day, which is so notable for the Russian Geographical Society, was held in the Central House of Artists on Wednesday, on the 4th of November.

There is no doubt that the Society would not exist without expeditions in that form as it is. Because expeditionary activity is and has always been one of the main lines of activities of the Russian Geographical Society from the very beginning of its existence.

A very important tradition of the Russian Geographical Society is the connection with the Russian fleet and sea expeditions. The present day is dedicated to modern marine research as well. The representatives of Vologda historical and patriotic club The Shipbuilders of Prionezhye told the guests of the Festival how to build and restore the ship with their own hands. 13 meter-long ship – the rescue whaleboat of White, a sample of the XIX century, built by the schoolchildren, the members of the Club is moored at the very entrance of the Central House of Artists.

The organizers of Albazinsk archaeological expedition delivered a lecture about the first Russian settlement on the Amur River. The staff of The Steppe Institute of Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences told about the results of the expedition of the Russian Geographical Society 2011-2013 on the Novosibirsk islands. The attendants of the Festival got to know about the wreck survey from the participants of the project named «The bow to the ships of the Great Victory».

Perhaps, one of the most interesting events of this day is the presentation of patriotic project of the Russian Geographical Society is The Complex Expedition Hogland.

The participants of this long expedition (and has been going on for several years already) told the audience about the research of the last «white spots» on the map of Europe. So we are talking about 14 outer islands of the Gulf of Finland, which have not been studied for many decades for some reasons.

Moreover, all the day there were demonstrated feature films and documentaries about the expeditions of Russian scientists-travelers in the conference-hall of the Central House of Artists at the Festival.
