From the 30th of October of 2015 in Moscow in the Central House of Artists there will be held the Second Festival of the Russian Geographical Society. Its expositions will be built according to the principle of natural areas: Arctic and tundra, steppes and subtropics, mountains, forests, oceans, seas and rivers. Thanks to this every visitor will be able to get that place of Russia where he has not been yet. Those who do not know geography of our country well, and all those who are the experts in it, will get a lot of impressions and new knowledge.
The Festival will start right at the entrance of the Central House of Artists. On the site at the building there will be moored 13-meters ship - Rescue whaleboat White sample of the XIX century. It is unique with the fact that it was built by the hands of Vologda schoolchildren - children from the club "Shipbuilders of Prionezhye".
Right next to the man-made ship there will be placed the legendary Russian amphibious vehicle "Emelya", thanks to which the participants of Sea ice automobile expedition set a world record in 2009. Then our compatriots passed on "Emelja -1" and "Emelja-2" of floating ice of the Arctic Ocean and reached the North Pole by cars for the first time in the history.
But even the modern technologies in Arctic terms can not substitute the best friend of a human. That`s why the guests of the Festival will be met by Siberian Huskies. This is perhaps most true and reliable means of transportation in North. All who wish will have an opportunity to communicate with the dogs, which specially for the guests of the Festival were let from the Arctic service and sent for «vacations» to the capital.
In the Arctic zone inside the CHA (Central House of Artists) the guests of the Festival will have an opportunity to imagine themselves being polar explorers and see the equipment, which was really used in expeditions. The lovers of the northern romance will be able to visit drifting research station "North Pole - 2015": to enter hydrometeorological tent, look into the chemical laboratory, where the experts will tell in details what way the studies of ice, water and atmosphere are being held.
For the guests of the Festival there will be organized special master-classes on archeology in the steppe zone. Everything will be almost real: the sand, archaeologists` tools and unique artifacts from the real expeditions.
Besides, lovers of archeology will manage to know about the dead city of Hara-Hoto in China – those are the ruins of the fortified city called Edzin. In the beginning of the 20th century it was detected by the famous Russian researcher, the honorary member of the Russian Geographical Society Peter Kozlov.
The visitors of the Festival will get to know about the way the animals listed in the Red Book live. In each of natural zones it will be possible to enter the habitation of a predator or a mammal or to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the wild nature. We invite you to visit a polar bear, a tiger, a leopard and even a humpback whale!
All who wish will be able to watch the rare species in their natural habitat as well, by having seen the videos from camera traps, which have been set by the Russian Geographical Society.
The island of the Grandfather Mazai will be placed in the area of forest. In summer of 2015 the participants of the expedition of the Russian Geographical Society named Mysteries of the Vezhi island named one of the unnamed islands of Gorky reservoir in the honor of literary character of the famous work of Nikolai Nekrasov. By the way, not everyone know that the Grandfather Mazai was a real man who lived in Vezhi village of Kostroma county. His name was Ivan Savin Mazayhin, born in 1802 in the Miskovski town of the Vezhi Community of the Village Vezhi.
In the area of rivers, seas and oceans any visitor of the Festival will have opportunity to feel himself the captain of a ship and try to keep the ship afloat in the storm – with the help of special training apparatus which is usually used for training of seafarers.
In our country there are not only nature treasures available – Russia first of all is rich by national diversity. In each natural area there will be placed some kind of dwelling which is specific for the nations, living there. A yurt – in steppes, a hut – in mountains, a cottage in the woods, and a tent in Arctic. So drop in for a visit!
Besides, the visitors will be able to see lost landscapes of the Earth – in all natural areas the unique exhibits from Vernadsky Geological Museum will be presented. Our planet was being changed for many billions of years, and the scientists succeeded in recreation its look in the remote past.
The diaries of great travelers, ancient books and documents will be presented in the history area. The hit of this area will become one of the first printed textbooks on geography in Russian. It was issued under Peter the 1st (the 10th of March of 1710) and is called "Geography or brief description of the circle of the Еarth". There was used Church Slavic Cyrillic script before. Peter developed civil font, taking as a basis Lithuanian and Belarusian letter. Who was the author of that unique edition – is still being a mystery.
Every day of the Festival will be dedicated to certain subjects: ethnography, tourism, expedition, history, cartoon movies, animal welfare, etc. During all the week the showing of the best documentaries of the Russian Geographical Society will be held, and master-classes, lections, contests and games as well.
In the frames of the Festival of the Russian Geographical Society the Russian Geographical dictation will be held. Anyone who wish, regardless of age, education and social status, will have an opportunity to take part in this large-scale educational action, which is about to be held for the first time by the Russian Geographical Society.
The ceremony of awarding the winners of the First All-Russian photo contest of the Russian Geographical Society in which more than 25 thousand professional and amateur photographers from all over the world took part will be held at the platform of the Central House of Artists as well. Instead of one winner the jury chose 11. That means that the author of the best picture in each nomination will get the main prize – 500 thousand Rubles and the opportunity to take part in expedition of the Russian Geographical Society. The names of these lucky beggars will be known at the award ceremony.
