On October 30, the eighth Geographical Dictation was held at the Moscow Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society. The Dictation’s slogan: "My land. My country. My discoveries".
First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society Nikolay Kasimov, a member of the RGS Media Council Nikolai Drozdov, famous Russian scientists, participants of the intellectual TV games "Svoya Igra" and "Chto? Gde? Kogda?", the winners of the thematic blitz contests "Write Your Question for the Geographical Dictation" and the international competition of the same name in 2022 answered the questions of the international educational campaign at the Media Studio of the RGS.
In his welcoming speech, Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society Nikolay Kasimov reminded that in seven years, about 2.5 million people in 122 countries have taken the Geographical Dictation.
Speaking about the role of geography and the Dictation itself, he noted:
“By the beginning of the 21st century, quite a lot had been discovered on Earth and in our country. What can be seen firsthand has been discovered; but modern geography is primarily the study of processes and phenomena. Given the scale of Russia, it is not sufficiently measured, and geography in all its diversity will help in this. We need to know everything in order to keep moving forward.”
For the first time, the tasks of 2022 included questions from the winners of the blitz contests focused on the main theme of 2022 – the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia.
According to one of the winners of the blitz contest, Arina Dodilnaya from the Republic of Adygea, participation in the competition gives you the opportunity to become part of a large project and tell about your Homeland:
“The Republic of Adygea has a rich history, culture, and nature, but it is not very popular. By offering my question about the republic, I wanted to draw attention to it and interest people in studying it.”
At the end of the Dictation, an award ceremony was held for the winners of thematic blitz contests and the 2022 international question contest. Among the awardees are schoolchildren, students, journalists, engineers, and geography teachers.
The awards were presented by the honorary guests of the event: the expert of the game “Chto? Gde? Kogda?" Dmitry Avdeenko and the participant of the game "Svoya Igra" Anatoly Wasserman.

The winners of the competitions received personal certificates, gift certificates that allow them to pay for any tour of Russia, individually selected at the request of the Russian Geographical Society, and a gift set from the Russian Geographical Society.
Also, the winner of the international contest "Come up with a Slogan for the Geographical Dictation" Alexandra Sapozhnikova from the city of Turinsk, Sverdlovsk Region, joined the Dictation via videoconference. She will be sent a watch, a personal certificate, and a gift set from the Russian Geographical Society.
The results of the Geographical Dictation, taken in-person and remotely on October 30, will be revealed after November 30. In order to find out the number of points received, you will need an identification number or a QR code on the note form.
From 14:00 on October 30 to 14:00 on November 10, Moscow time, it will be possible to take an online version of the Dictation on the website dic.rgo.ru. You can take it at any time an unlimited number of times. Registration is not necessary for this, and the result is known immediately after taking the test.
There are two blocks of questions in the online Dictation: ten easy and thirty more difficult. The test takes 45 minutes to complete. You can find out your result immediately after completing all the tasks, and if you don't like it, take the test again. Please note that a certificate for participation in the online Dictation is not provided.
