Geography for Children

In October, the "Geography for children” social initiative has started. The event is aimed at organizing educational and awareness-raising activities for children left without parents in children's homes in various regions of Russia. They will be organized by regional offices and youth clubs of the Russian Geographical Society.

"The purpose of this initiative is to keep children interested in geography and to attract our volunteers, members of youth clubs of the Society, to such socially important activities. Famous scientists, travelers and photographers will take part in the events to tell children about this country", said first Vice-President of the Society Nikolai Kasimov. 

In 2018, ten institutions will participated in the action; three in Moscow and seven in other regions of Russia - Vologda, Tula, Ulyanovsk and Kemerovo regions, Primorsky Krai and the Republic of Mordovia. Lessons on geography and lectures on ecology and related disciplines will be organized. Moreover, well-known artists and will answer the questions about how to get into geographical faculties of Russian universities. The program will also include film shows, workshops, games and quizzes.

The first event will be held on October 10 at the Kochelaev boarding school in the Kovylkinsky district in the Republic of Mordovia. Its program includes a lecture for older children on the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Mordovia, a geography lesson for primary schoolchildren ("Travels on the electronic planet Earth"), a film show, as well as games and quizzes.
