Nina Loshkomoeva’s 90th anniversary

On November 24 Nina Loshkomoeva, a Member of the Russian Geographical Society (since 1962) turned 90 years old. She was in charge of the Russian Geographical Society library for almost 50 years. Nina Loshkomoeva started working in the library in 1952,  right after her graduation from the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia where she was a student of the Faculty of Geography. In 1955 she was appointed Head of the library.

Nina Loshkomoeva always paid special attention to acquisition and creation of the systematic catalog. In 1973, large-scale reconstruction and refurbishment of the stacks of the library were carried out under her leadership.

The Russian Geographical Society Scientific Library has the largest specialized collection of literature on geography in Russia and one of the most valuable geographical book collections in the world. Since the early days the Society started developing the library.

For many years Nina Loshkomoeva was the originator of the "List of geographical societies’ publications received by the RGO library" which was published annually in "The Russian Geographical Society Herald"

Nina Mikhailovna’s fruitful activity was awarded diplomas of the Russian Academy of Sciences Library, the Presidium of the Geographical Society, the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1999), Jubilee Medal "In memory of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg" (2003).
