The 10th of December there was open the exhibition of the Russian Geographical Society in Gogolevskiy Boulevard named «The Konstantinovskaya medal. History of one award. 1846-2016».
The Muscovites and visitors will be able to get to know about the highest award of the Russian Geographical Society at the open-air exhibition. At the heart of the exhibition there are unique archival materials of the Society, telling the story of its creation and about the outstanding research and expeditions of the scientists, having become its laureates.

The medal got the name in honor of its founder – the first chairman of the Society the Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich. The main condition for the award was committing of the geographical feat by the nominee, the geographical feat should have been conjugated with great difficulty or danger. Another important condition is studies` focus on the decision of the primary state tasks.
The head of the first scale expedition of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society to the Northern Urals Ernst Gofman, Nikolay Przewalski for scientific research and geographical discoveries and traveling to Mongolia and to the country of Tanguts, Petr Kozlov for the Tibetan expedition in 1899-1901, Vladimir Obruchev for his works on Asia geology, Fridtjof Nansen for his feat, making an epoch in the study of the Arctic Ocean, and other scientists were the owners of honorary award in different years.
The exhibition will be open until December 25, 2016
