In honor of an outstanding geographer, a major public figure, Vice-Chairman of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society P.P.Semenov-Tyan-Shanskiy the Bank of Russia issues a commemorative silver coin.

There is located the relief image of the famous scientist with mountains in the background, and the contours of the riders on horses and camels on the reverse side of the coin. Above the inscription along the rim there is: «P.P.Semenov-Tyan-Shanskiy», bottom right - the years of birth and death: «1827», «1914».
Circulation of the coins makes only 3000 pieces, denomination - 2 rubles.
The Russian Geographical Society awards the geographers for excellence with gold and silver medals of P.P. Semenov.
The name of Semenov-Tyan-Shanskiy on the maps is presented by the glacier and the peak in Central Tien Shan, the ridge to the south of the Qinghai Lake, the top named Petr Petrovich in the Mongolian Altai, the tops in the Kyrgyz Alatau, in the Caucasus, Alaska and by Spitsbergen.
About a hundred of new forms of plants and animals are named after Semenov-Tyan-Shanskiy.
The Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Arts, almost all the universities of Russia, many Russian and foreign scientific societies elected Semenov-Tyan-Shanskiy their honorary member.
