Institute Of Earth Sciences Holds Open Day At Headquarters Of RGS In St. Petersburg

The Open Day of the Institute of Earth Sciences of St. Petersburg State University was held on March 22 at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg. Dozens of students and schoolchildren came to the meeting, some with their parents.

Kirill Chistyakov, Vice President of the Russian Geographical Society, Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences of St. Petersburg State University, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Honored Geographer of the Russian Federation, told the participants in detail about the institute and the history of the Russian Geographical Society. The participants learned about the life and work of the great scientists who headed the RGS in different years as well as about their contribution to domestic and world science.

Kirill Chistyakov also told potential applicants about the educational programs at the institute: dozens of operating laboratories, resource centers, museums, and educational collections.

Tatyana Semenova, Deputy Head of the St. Petersburg State University Admissions Department, Head of the Admissions Department in the fields of geography, geology, geoecology, soil science, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, told in detail about the admission process in 2024. She drew the attention of future applicants to how to submit documents correctly and in what time frame it is necessary to do so.

The Open Day of the Institute of Earth Sciences is traditionally held at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society within the framework of the cooperation agreement between St. Petersburg State University and the Russian Geographical Society. Within the framework of the agreement, the two organizations implement scientific, environmental, social, educational, cultural programs, and projects related to the study and development of the territory of Russia.
