International Conference on Study of Ecosystems Starts in Sevastopol

The III International Scientific and Practical Conference "Study of Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems: History and Modernity" has begun its work in Sevastopol. The large-scale forum, which is being held by the federal research center A. O. Kovalevsky Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Sevastopol Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, brought together 150 scientists from different cities of Russia as well as foreign guests from Guinea, Syria, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Brazil, India, Iran, South Africa, Abkhazia, and Kazakhstan.

This year's conference is dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the reunification of Crimea and Sevastopol with the Russian Federation and is held as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia. The program includes presentations by experts with 11 plenary and 145 sectional reports.

The conference program includes the following sections: "Biodiversity of Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems and Its Conservation", "Structure, Functioning, and Dynamics of Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems", "Environmental Microbiology and Algology", "Physiology and Biochemistry of Adaptation Processes of Aquatic Organisms", "Molecular Biology and Genetics of Aquatic Organisms", "Problems of Pollution of Aquatic Ecosystems and Marine Radiochemoecology", "Biological Resources, Biotechnology, and Aquaculture", "Sustainable Coastal Development", "Methane Degassing in Aquatic Ecosystems: Flows, Environment-forming Role, Genesis, Participation in Geological and Environmental Processes", "Section of the Junior Academy of Sciences". Two seminars are also planned within the framework of the event: "Russia –  Guinea: Perspectives on the Development of Joint Scientific Research Activities" and "Marine Radiochemoecological Research: History and Modernity". The event list will also include a workshop school for young scientists, graduate students, and students "Modern Hydrobiology: From Expedition to Article", four round tables "Reserve Science: To the 110th Anniversary of the T.I. Vyazemsky Karadag Scientific Station", "Ecological Safety in Post-Conflict Areas”, "Sustainable Development Approaches Involving Lagoon and Marine Coastal Systems", "Issue of Conservation and Rehabilitation of Freshwater Bodies of Crimea".

An extensive excursion program is provided for the participants of the conference. Within the framework of the forum, Vladimir Vorobyov, Chairman of the Sevastopol Branch of the RGS, is scheduled to have a working meeting with the representatives of the international scientific community from Syria and Guinea. The conference will work until September 7.
