Jubilee Olympiad on geography

The 17th of April, 2016 there will take place the opening of the final phase of the All-Russian Olympiad on geography.

The Olympiad of 2016 – is jubilee, as it will celebrate 25-year anniversary. The first All-Russian Olympiad was held in 1992, and its finals took place near Yaroslavl.

In the present, jubilee, Olympiad, there will take part 213 schoolchildren, representing almost all the subjects of the Russian Federation.  The composition of the country's best young geographers, who are going to compete in Tver Region, was determined in January during the Regional stage of the Olympiad, in which more than 5,5 thousand schoolchildren took part. There are three rounds in the program of the final stage of the Olympiad. The first is theoretical, during which the participants are about to solve five challenges that require not only knowledge of the basics of a school course of geography, but also a wide geographical erudition, analysis of maps and statistics skills, the ability to think logically. The second round – is practical (field), it passes on the ground, the tasks are being performed during the passage of the route length of about 6 km. The third tour – is a test tour. It lets to check the knowledge of the geographical nomenclature and terminology.

The winners of the jubilee Olympiad on geography will be announced the 23rd of April, the awarding ceremony will take place in the  auditorium of the country complex «Computeria», where the participants of the Olympiad will spend all the week. The organizers of the Olympiad are the following: the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Russian Geographical Society and the Tver State University.
