On March 2 at 3 p.m. the "Kalevala Land" XII International Ethno Festival opening ceremony will be held at the HQ of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg. The event is timed to the International Kalevala Day and Volunteer’s Year in Russia.
Holiday guests will enjoy art workshops, photo exhibitions and a concert. The outstanding Soviet and Russian composer, Honored Artist Alexander Kolker and folk groups from Karelia, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region will perform on the stage. The ceremony will be hosted by Ruslan Meshchanov, a theater and cinema actor, and Olga Artemenko, a journalist and producer of “St. Petersburg” TV Channel.
As part of the event, there will take place presentations of new projects in the field of domestic and cross-border tourism. Specialists will discuss the development of interregional connections, tourist, cultural and youth cooperation.
Representatives of the St. Petersburg government and the government of the Republic of Karelia are expected to open the festival.
The festival is organized by the Eco-efficient Tourism Commission of the Leningrad regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, the St. Petersburg House of Nationalities, the Karelian Commonwealth public organization, the Finno-Ugric Cultural Center of the Russian Federation, the Association of Youth Governments of the Russian Federation and the Youth Collegium of St. Petersburg.
