A seminar for heads and employees of publishing companies was held at the Society’s Headquarters in St. Petersburg, September 20, 2018. Representatives of about 20 large companies specializing in publishing popular science and popular literature attended the event.

First Deputy Executive Director of Russian Geographical Society Ilya Gurov told the guests about the publishing activities of the Society. The participants discussed the expansion of the publishing program of the Society and the conditions to cooperate in this area.

An excursion was organized for the guests. During this excursion they were able to see rare and unique editions, art books, and collections of documents and travel journals of the famous geographers-travelers: Przewalski, Semenov-Tyan-Shansky and others.
Book publishing has played an important role in the activities of the Russian Geographical Society since its foundation in 1845. Numerous publications of the Society were included in the Gold Fund of Russian scientific and popular literature and became the standard of books about travels and discoveries. They are based on a collection of manuscripts, books and maps from the Society archives, the so-called Russian geographical "Kunstkammer".
