The collection of thematic atlases has been replenished with new editions on the Geoportal of the Russian Geographical Society - the Atlas of the State Nature Reserves of Russia and the Medical and Geographical Atlas of Russia.
The Atlas of State Nature Reserves of Russia (2017) is the first atlas that summarizes information about all the reserves in Russia. 512 pages of the publication is an encyclopedia with up-to-date information about the nature of 107 reserves, an entertaining textbook on geography, a collection of maps, and a guide for tourists. Information about each reserve contains a detailed account of its size, topography, climate, features of flora and fauna, attractions. The publication is illustrated with eight hundred photos taken by employees and visitors to nature reserves.
The release of the book is timed to the centenary of the reserve system of Russia. Let us recall, that the first reserve in Russia - Barguzinsky - was founded 100 years ago, on January 11, 1917. It was created on the northeast shore of Baikal to preserve the Barguzin sable.
Medical and geographical atlas of Russia "Natural Focal Diseases" (2015) tells about the spread of natural focal diseases, their carriers and transmission vectors, the history of its appearence and existence. Such human infectious diseases are found in areas where natural and climatic conditions ensure the circulation of the pathogen among animals.
The atlas contains more than 100 maps, as well as photographs and other illustrations. Maps show the incidence of the population in 83 subjects of Russia and the long-term dynamics of diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis, tularemia, West Nile fever, pseudotuberculosis, Crimean hemorrhagic fever, ornithosis, rabies, anthrax, tetanus and plague.
Sources of information were cartographic, literary, archival, stock materials, statistical data from Rosstat and Rospotrebnadzor, as well as the results of field expeditions.
