Today the zoologist and zoogeographer, doctor of biological sciences, candidate of geographical sciences, professor of Moscow State University, beloved television host, traveler, screenwriter, and writer - Nikolai Nikolaevich Drozdov celebrates 80th anniversary!

In the list of his achievements are - the TEFI award for the TV show "In the world of animals," the Albert Einstein medal, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland and the Konstantinov Medal of the Russian Geographical Society.

However, the most important merit of Nikolai Nikolaevich is the sincere love of several generations of viewers. Optimism, a kind smile he has while talking about the world, curiosity, a passion for adventure - instantly have even those who had never been interested in studying the wildlife before!

Nikolay Drozdov was born on June 20, 1937 in Moscow in a family of scientists. From the early childhood, he curiously explored the world around him, and after school entered the natural faculty of the Potemkin Moscow City Pedagogical Institute. Then, in the second year, he transferred to the Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Nikolai Nikolayevich is a descendant of St. Philaret. Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna is great-great-great-great-grandfather of the famous traveler a. Moreover, Nikolai Nikolaevich brings up his grandson, who was named after the famous ancestor.

In 1968, Nikolai Drozdov defended his thesis on "Cultural landscapes of arid regions of the USSR and their ornithofauna". Since then, he works at the Department of Biogeography of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University. He reads courses of ecology, ornithology, nature protection, biogeography of the world and constantly gives lectures.

During the years of his scientific activity Nikolai Nikolayevich wrote about two hundred scientific and popular scientific articles, two dozen books and scientific aids, including textbooks "Biogeography of the World", "Biogeography with the Basics of Ecology", "Ecosystems of the World", a book for schoolchildren "Stories about the Biosphere ".

He deserved the national love by working on television. In 1968, Drozdov took part in the TV show "In the world of animals" as a scientific adviser, and since 1977 became its leader.

Nikolay Drozdov participated in a number of expeditions, including the UNESCO mission on the ship of the USSR Academy of Sciences "Callisto" to the islands of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, travel along the coasts of Canada and Alaska. In 1979, Nikolai Drozdov ascended the summit of Elbrus.

Surprisingly, over time, the interest of Nikolai Drozdov to travel only increases. At the age of 65, he landed on the North Pole and spent a week at the Barneo Ice Camp, and after it along with young participants, he tested his strength in an adventure show, shared his survival experience, and simultaneously explored the flora and fauna of Bocas del Toro.

Now the scientist and TV presenter continues his scientific and educational activities, he studies the issues of a healthy lifestyle and active longevity.
For many years, Nikolay Drozdov is a member of the Media Council of the Russian Geographical Society, he is a member of the jury of international competitions and national prizes, including those held under the aegis of the Russian Geographical Society.
