Three hundred children from 55 regions have already plunged into the world of discoveries, have learnt more about the geography of Russia and its native region, and have presented themselves as a traveler and a pioneer. For three weeks, as long as the profile change of the RGS in "Orlenka" lasted, they comprehended the most interesting science about our planet in most fascinating form.

The organizers of the profile change prepared a saturated program for young geographers. Every day the children met with a kind of complex professions. Meteorologists, cartographers, ecologists, paleontologists and microbiologists came to visit them and tell about the intricacies of their work in an accessible manner.

At one of the meetings, the children received a unique opportunity to communicate with the direct descendant of the legendary polar explorer, Admiral Peter F. Anzhu - Kirill Shalakhin.

Each of the members of the profile change was able to show their individuality, as well as test knowledge, identify gaps that could be worked on in the coming academic year.

The children wrote a geographic dictation, participated in the outdoor quiz "Lost Card", landscape photo contest "Pearls of the native land", and visited the tourist educational path "Orlyonok through the prism of discoveries". Their everyday lives were filled with film screenings, underwater diving, sports competitions and classes in thematic modules.

The director of the profile change of RGS in International and All-Russian Children's Centers of Russia Ivan Chaika presented diplomas, personal badges and gratitude to young geographers. All children who showed themselves most vividly during the 21 days of the profile change "The World of Discoveries" received memorable gifts from the RGS.

Annually, starting from 2015, the Russian Geographical Society holds a competition for participation in the profile change of the federal children's centers "Artek", "Orlyonok", "Smena" and "Ocean". We invite children from 10-17 years old who are interested in geography: members of expeditions, winners of contests and olympiads in geography, ecology, ethnography, local history and other subjects. Young researchers participate in scientific and cognitive projects, observe the state of the environment, and study the basics of tourism and local history.
