The Papanin readings

Within the framework of the «Arctic is the territory of the dialogue» the 28th of March, 2017 there is planned an international youth conference «The Papanin readings – 2017». The event will be held in the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov and will be dedicated to the research initiatives of young scientists.

The conference is being organized in memory of the Soviet Arctic explorer, a member of the Russian Geographical Society, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Rear Admiral, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Dmitrievich Papanin.

The students of institutions of higher education, young scientists and professionals under 35 years old (young doctors of sciences under 40 years old) are invited for participation.

-Geology, geomorphology, permafrostology;

-Geoecology and environmental safety, environmental management and problems of sustainable development;

-Oceanography, hydrology, climatology, meteorology;

-Social and economic geography, local history and tourism;

-Ethnography and historical geography;

-Technologies and innovations for the development of the Arctic.

The organizers of «The Papanin readings» are the following: The Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov, ANO Scientific Informational Center «Polar initiative» and the Youth club of the Russian Geographical Society in Arkhangelsk region.

The International Artic forum «Arctic – is the territory of the dialogue» has been held since the year of 2010 and is being the largest platform for joint discussion of current problems and prospects of development of the Arctic region.

The central theme of the Forum in 2017 – is «Man in the Arctic».

Forum aims to unite international organizations, government departments, scientific and business communities of Russia and foreign countries to coordinate the approaches to the development of international cooperation, consolidation of efforts to ensure sustainable Arctic development and raising the standard of living in the Arctic territories.
