On May 5, during the conference "Moscow – Baku: Dialogue of Two Capitals", First Deputy Executive Director of the Russian Geographical Society Ilya Gurov spoke about the projects of the Russian Geographical Society and opportunities for cooperation with business and public circles of Azerbaijan.

In his speech, Ilya Gurov stressed that the friendly ties between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Russia have deep historical roots. In 1850, the Caucasian Department of the Russian Geographical Society was established, whose task, among other things, was to study the Aral-Caspian region.

Successful cooperation continues nowadays. In 2017, the branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University in Baku became the largest foreign platform for the Geographical Dictation. Here 600 people took part in the large-scale event of the RGS. The Russian Geographical Society sees great opportunities for developing cooperation with Azerbaijani partners, including by opening an RGS Center in the country.

"The opening of the RGS Center in Azerbaijan will give impetus to joint projects to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of our countries, will contribute to the development of bilateral humanitarian ties,” Ilya Gurov said.

The event was attended by Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Bocharnikov, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department of External Economic and International Relations of Moscow Sergey Cheryomin, Head of the Executive Office of Baku Ayaz Imamaliyev, Chairman of the Management Board of the Agency for the Development of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses of the Republic of Azerbaijan Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Aleksei Shaposhnikov, Head of the Representative Office of the "Russian Export Center" JSC in the Republic of Azerbaijan Nuri Guliyev.
