RGS Publications Donated To The Library Of The Russian House In New Delhi

The library of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in New Delhi (India) has been replenished with publications of the Russian Geographical Society. The books were handed over by the delegation of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society as part of the opening of the Sergey Dudko exhibition "Bouquet of Peaks: Great Mountains of the World".

The set includes books published following the results of the international large-scale project of the Russian Geographical Society "Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: Journey Continues". In the monograph "Geography of the Himalayas" Honored Traveler of Russia, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Yuri Efremov systematized information on the geography of the Karakoram-Himalayas, cited materials of expedition research. The book is published in Russian and English. The participant of the project, traveler, poet, and writer Vladimir Nikulin told about the course of the expedition in the book "To Nepal and Tibet: Journey Continues". There are also published materials about the trip to the mountains by the artist Vasily Vereshchagin, and about the famous expedition of the artist, scientist, and writer Nicholas Roerich. Later, this work earned him the title of laureate of the national literary award "Imperial Culture".

Another publication, "Picturesque Russia" (authors Ivan Chaika and Evgenia Kambarova), introduces readers to the nature of our country. The book includes photos by the participants of the large-scale expedition "Russia", the winners of the Crystal Compass Award, members of the RGS, and photo communities from various Russian regions.

“We also handed over the books to representatives of the Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in India, the Supreme Court of the country, and the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) –  the main art gallery under the Ministry of Culture of the Government of India. Another publication will be presented to the president of the BRICS International Forum, Purnima Anand," said the head of the project "Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: Journey Continues", Chairman of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society Ivan Chaika.

Recall, the project "Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: Journey Continues" was launched in 2015. The participants of the RGS’s expedition conducted a number of studies in Bhutan, Nepal, India, China (Tibet), and Pakistan, updated the contribution of Russian explorers of Central Asia, collected ethnographic and geological material. Sergey Dudko, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Honored Traveler of Russia, member of the Russian Geographical Society, member of the expert council of the Crystal Compass National Award and AIAP UNESCO, has created a unique gallery of images of the highest peaks of the world.

The events in India are held within the framework of the project "Walking in the Clouds" with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, Rossotrudnichestvo, the investment holding Alias Group, and with the personal support of a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnodar Territory Boris Yunanov, Afipka NPZ.
