An exhibition of paintings by the Honored Artist and traveler of Russia, member of the Russian Geographical Society Sergei Dudko, has begun its work in the Pakistani city of Karachi. The grand opening of the exhibition took place at the Russian Center of Culture and Science. The event was opened by the director of the institution Ruslan Prokhorov and an Honorary Member of the RGS, scientific director of the project "Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: Journey Continues" Yuri Efremov.
The local community was told about how the artist worked on his paintings. The meeting participants also discussed the results of the project on further exploration of the world's highest mountains and the development of scientific and cultural cooperation between Russia and Pakistan.
“We have already presented Sergei Dudko's ‘Bouquet of Peaks’ in Nepal, India, and China. And it was extremely important to us to bring it to Pakistan, as part of the work is dedicated to the eight-thousanders of this amazing and original country," said Ivan Chaika, the head of the delegation of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the RGS and the “Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: Journey Continues ” project.
For Sergei Dudko, it was a special project, it became the crowning achievement of his creative life. Each painting is unique – the artist depicted mountain landscapes that he himself saw during numerous ascents. Here you can find the Elbrus region, the Himalayas, and the Caucasus: mountain rivers, snow-capped peaks, green plains of the highlands, and rocks shrouded in fog. The wind, cold and harsh climate did not prevent the author and his daughter Lyudmila from creating real masterpieces.
The events of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the RGS in Pakistan are held with the support of the Russian Embassy, Rossotrudnichestvo, and the Russian Center of Culture and Science. The exhibition will be open until October 15th.
The collection of "portraits" of all 14 eight-thousanders of the planet was created as part of the project of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the RGS "Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: Journey Continues". Its main goal is to update the heritage of Russian travelers, artists, and explorers of the Himalayan mountain system. The participants conduct comprehensive scientific research, collect ethnographic material for the organization's museum collections, organize conferences and meetings at the cultural and scientific centers of Bhutan, Nepal, India, China, and Pakistan. The documentary film "Russian Himalayas: Walking in the Clouds", the books "Geography of the Himalayas" and "To Nepal and Tibet: Journey Continues” were created as part of the project.
