Striped express

The «striped» train dedicated to Amur tiger and Far Eastern leopard started plying in Moscow subway the 27th of September. The project is supported by the Russian Geographical Society, the Amur tiger center, founded by RGS and ANO "Far Eastern leopards."

The train was run in Lublin-Dmitrov subway line the day when the main ecological high day of Primorye was celebrated in Vladivostok – the Amur tiger day.

Passengers can see pictures of the flora and fauna of the Far Eastern taiga in each coach of the train. Young passengers like the idea most of all as not every day you are being accompanied by the most beautiful animal of the Red book.

We would like to remind you that the Amur tiger is not only one of the biggest terrestrial predators of our planet, but one of the rarest subspecies of tiger as well. It has great physical strength as it can traipse carcass of a horse for more than 500 meters!  95% of all its` population live in Far East of Russia.

«The Amur  tiger» project has been supported  by the Russian Geographical Society since 2010. And we have good news for you! In the year of 2015 the Amur tiger population in the wild nature on the territory of our country stabilized at around 510-540 individuals and its` gradual growth started.

Far Eastern leopard which can also be found in the «stripped» train of Moscow subway, - is the rarest cat in the world.  There are not more than 70 of them on Earth!

This beautiful predator is record holder in high jump. It can jump from place to a height of 5 meters. The biggest part of population (about 30-40 specials) lives on the territory of Russia in Primorsky Krai.

From the year of 2011 the Russian Geographical Society supports the project «Far Eastern leopard» aimed at study of the state of populations of the Far Eastern leopard and its main victims – ungulates, and development of infrastructure of infrastructure of protected areas within its range.
