The Russian Geographical Society and the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences invite volunteers aged from 18 to 35 to help in preservation of the monuments of ancient history on the shores of the Sayano-Shushenskoe reservoir. Accepting of applications for participation in the expedition "Salvation of Archeology Monuments at the Bottom of the Sayan Sea" started on February 28.

The Sayano-Shushenskoe reservoir was formed as a result of the construction of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric station. It is located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Tyva and spread over more than 600 square meters. The constant change of the water level has a devastating effect on the coastline, where are numerous monuments of ancient history. Many of them are especially interesting and valuable for historians and archaeologists. These are the Hunnu Terezin and Ala-Tey burial mounds (II century BC - I century AD), where iron arrowheads, bits and stirrups of the Middle Ages period were found. Archaeologists found many unique artifacts, including the partially mummified burial of a woman at the Terezin burial ground during the expedition last year.

The scientific journey to the shores of the Sayan Sea will take place from May 25 to July 10, 2019 in the Ulug-Khemsky and Cha-Kholsky districts of the Republic of Tyva. During the month, the expedition members will be engaged in archaeological exploration of the shores of the Upper Yenisei using modern fixation methods. With the help of 3D-modeling, they will fix cave paintings and petroglyphs and will monitor the shores of the reservoir in order to find and save archaeological monuments destroyed by the waters of the Sayan Sea. Among them, for example, Chinge, Kuilug-Khem, Sume-Besh, Terezin, Ala-Tey, Yttyg-Attyg-Tey and Chirik-Dash burial grounds.
