According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, more than 11,000 forest fires occur in this country each year. The main reason for forest fires is climate change. Many scientists believe that there is a direct correlation between global warming, solar hyperactivity and increase in the number and area of forest fires in Russia.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Roshydromet, and Roslesozaschita are engaged in the study of correlations of forest fires with climate change in XXI.

According to the data from the Main Geophysical Observatory named after A. I. Voeykov, by 2030 the air temperature is to increase by 1.7-2.0 °C in winter and by 0.9 – 1.0 °C in summer. This may cause an increase in the area and intensity of fires in the forests of Russia. So, if the temperature during the fire season will increase by only 1°C, the area destroyed by fires will grow by 15-17 %.

"The climate warming could exacerbate the already difficult fire situation in Russia. According to forecasts, by the end of the XXI century, the duration of fires may increase by 20-50 days, depending on the region of the country", said acting head of the all-Russian Center for Monitoring and Forecasting Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Konstantin Moskin. He added that climate change causes an increase in the growth of natural hazards in Russia by three times.

In addition to climate change, the main reasons for forest fires are violation of fire safety rules and agricultural field fires. In this regard, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations ask residents and guests of Russian regions to follow safety rules and remind that smoking, lighting fires, launching fireworks, leaving flammable objects, and burning grass in forests are prohibited.

The theory of global climate warming is confirmed by observations of the increase in average temperature of air and oceans, melting of ice, and increase in the average sea level. Against the background of these climatic phenomena occur seasonal changes. The Russian Geographical Society has been working for many years to collect and systematize data on seasonal changes in nature, studied by phenologists. The phenological network of Russian Geographical Society allows any resident of our country to fix observations and contribute to the development of science.
