National Geographic Russia and the Russian Geographical Society has been holding the All-Russian Photo Contest "Wild Nature of Russia" since 2011. This year, more than 40,000 works were submitted to the creative competition from across the country.
On December 25 the opening ceremony of the "Wild Nature of Russia - 2014" Photo Exhibition was held at the Central House of Artists in Moscow. The best works will be displayed there.
According to Alevtina Sukhorukova, Art Director of National Geographic Russia, categories "Birds" and "Mammals" were the most impressive.
There are11 primary categories and a special one: "History in Motion" (organized by SanDisk, general partner of the project). The Russian Geographical Society also awarded a special prize. The grand prize of the photo contest is 300 thousand rubles.
According to Alexander Grek, the editor in chief of National Geographic Russia, the names of the authors were not indicated at the pictures, so the jury’s decisions were absolutely impartial.
The ceremony was attended by Vladimir Kotlyakov, Academician, Honorary President of the Russian Geographical Society, Director of the Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander Orlov, the Head of the Expeditionary Center of the Russian Geographical Society and Vice President of the Association of Polar Explorers, Oleg Panteleev, a member of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Sergei Gorshkov, a famous photographer, Sergei Dolya, a blogger and a traveler, and many others. Anastasia Chernobrovina, Advisor to the President of the Russian Geographical Society for Media Policy, hosted the event.

The culmination of the ceremony was the presentation of the prizes to the best photographers. We are pleased to present the winners:

After the official opening of the bright collection of amazing works in the capital it will be presented at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg, and then the exhibition will travel to other regions of Russia and will visit more than a dozen major cities.
