The winners of the photo contest «The most beautiful country» are announced

The winners of the photo contest «The most beautiful country» have been announced. This is the most expected event of the first day of the II Festival of the Russian Geographical Society. The fact is that this information has been being kept in secret till today.

Within the framework of the opening ceremony of the Festival of the Russian Geographical Society there was held the rewarding of 11 winners of the All-Russian photo contest of the Society «The most beautiful country». That became the most expected event of the work of first day of the Festival. And that is clear – because even the jury did not know the names of these lucky beggars  - the voting for the best works was anonymous.

About 25 thousand people took part in the photo contest of the Russian Geographical Society – there are professional and amateur photographers from all over the world amongst them. They had sent about 200 thousand of works, and it was planned in the beginning to choose the only one winner of them. But the result of voting of the jury became non-expectable. The jury chose not the one, but 11 winners – for the number of nominations.

All of them got the prizes from the Russian Geographical Society for their bright and original photo works: such as diploma of the winner of the nomination, the certificate for 500 thousand rubles and the right to participate in one of the most exciting expeditions of the Russian Geographical Society. But that is not all yet – Sergey Shoygu handed all the winners a memorable gift – his photo with autograph.

  1. The nomination «The peoples of Russia»

    The winner is Alexander Romanov (Tyumen). The work named «A Little Varg»

    The photo was shot on Taz peninsula (it is Yamal-Nenets district). The author of the photo is writing about his work: «For short polar summer a boy named Danil managed to tame a wild peregrine falcon luring it with the meat of a deer. The boy and the bird became inseparable friends».

  2. The nomination «The most beautiful country, The Landscape»

    The winner is Sergey Ivanov (Perm). The work named «On the slope of the day».

    The picture was made in Krasnovishersky District of Perm Region. Here is that the author of the photo wrote: «The middle of March, the evening. Our camp was situated about 500 meters far from the shoot place. The wind was blowing, picking up snow dust. But suddenly it subsided and the snowy curtain fell till the following wind gust».

3. The nomination «The photo history of wild nature»

The winner is Constantine Tolokonnikov (Voronezh).

The work is named «The Geometry of the autumn».The photo was made in Voronezh region. The author wrote of his picture: «I liked geometry at school very much, and later I adored drawing lessons. These lessons had not been in vain – when I went in for photography, I started noticing the geometry in everything I saw».

4. The nomination «Black and white nature»

The winner is Vadim Kuhtin (Donetsk). The work is named «Funa, the snowfall».

Funa (the smoky) – is the ancient name of mountain range of Demerdzhi, situated in Alushta district of Crimea. The author of the picture is writing: «For some 20 minutes a quiet sunny day was replaced by the real snowstorm. This mountain conceals a lot of mysteries!»

5. The nomination «The Macrocosm»

The winner is Timur Gaifullin (Surgut). The work is named «The Caterpillar».

The picture is taken in Ulyanovsk region. The author writes about his work: «This caterpillar might had been about to become a butterfly, I do not know. But if this happened, I think it would become a very beautiful butterfly».

6. The nomination «The young photographer»

The winner is Alisa Maryina (12 years old, Kazan). The work is named «The nestling».

The photo was made in the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan city). On the photo there is redstart - small (less than a sparrow!) songbird of the Old World flycatcher family. That is what the author writes about his work: «Once I found out that the nest was empty… and then I saw two nestlings! They were sitting at the dry branches on the ground and were almost invisible. One of them, less fearful, I managed to take a picture of».

7. The nomination «The animals»

The winner is: Ivan Kislov (Magadan). The work is named «The snowstorm»

The photo was made in Bilibino district of Chukotka autonomous region. The author of the photo writes: «There is a lone wolf on the photo. There was a strong snowstorm during the shooting. The beast did not admit to his close and constantly was going away behind the snow veil».

8. The nomination «The natural design. Art photo»

The winner is Maxim Kostin (Novosibirsk). The work is named «The ornament of autumn»

The picture was taken in the botanical garden of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. The author of the photo is writing: «The ornament of tree crowns beckons skyward, as if to another universe. The beauty and harmony are close to us - we just need to look around».

9. The nomination «The undersea world»

The winner is Andrey Sidorov (Moscow). The work is named «Far away in the meadow is grazing -who?».

The photo was made in Kuril Reserve (Sakhalin region, Kunashir island). There is motley seal or larga as it was called by Tungus people, it does not let come close a man when on the land – because it is afraid. But in the water these seals are usually getting used to his presence much faster.

10. The nomination «The birds»

The winner is Sergey Klochev, St. Petersburg. The work is named «The blizzard».

The picture was taken in Peterhof. The author of the photo is writing about his work: «The snowfall is over, but the owl has not managed to hide, remains sitting on the doorstep, the whole strewn with the snow».

11. The nomination «The world is in our hands»

The winner is Dmitri Utkin (Nikolsky). The work is named «Hi, Mom!»

The photo was made on Bering Island. The author of the photo tells of his work:  «The cub fur seals could barely recognize his mother caught in a scrap of fishing net. An animal, entangled in the net, - is an easy prey for a predator, and the fur seal itself will not be foraging easily in such a «dress».

There were 11 nominations and 11 winners in the photo contest, and all of them got their prizes. But the awarding ceremony was not over by that yet. The fact is that the photos of all the winners were laid out in the open access to the website of the photo contest in order to make the website users feel themselves the jury members as well and choose the best work on their opinion.

In the result the prize of people's choice award was got by Sofia Borisova from Simferopol with her work named «On the crest of a wave» (who is only 12 years old, by the way). She was handled in special diploma and the photo autographed by the President of the Russian Geographical Society.

The picture was taken in the Republic of Crimea, the village Partenit. The author writes about her work: «A light breeze suddenly blew, picked up the bitter scent of flowers and carried it to the raging sea. It is so great to be on the crest of a wave again!»

The awards were given in to the winners by the President of the Russian Geographical Society Sergey Shoygu, the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin, the First Vice President of the Russian Geographical Society Artur Chilingarov, photo contest jury chairman Sergey Gorshkov, the President of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts Irina Antonova, the member of the Media Council of the Russian Geographical Society, Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences and PhD in geography, TV presenter Nikolai Drozdov, sculptor Dashi Namdakov, TV presenter Valdis Pelsh, the cosmonauts Yuri Lonchakov and Alexander Samokutyaev.

At the end of the awarding ceremony the cosmonauts Alexander Samokutyaev and Yuri Lonchakov conveyed to Sergey Shoygu the flag of the Russian Geographical Society, which had been in-orbit and the photo of Earth, made from the spacecraft.

«I think it will be better if you give me a ticket to the space next time», - joking the President of the Russian Geographical Society, taking the gifts with great gratitude.
